Regent's Park, Westminster Abby, & Buckingham Palace
Friday afternoon a couple of us went to Regent's Park to walk around. It was really pretty. It wasn't what I was expecting though. There were SO many birds. I was just freaking out. Pigeons are so used to the people they just get right up next to, which is NOT okay in my book. There were seagulls, geese, ducks, swans, and many other birds that I don't even know what they are. After that we went to Oxford Street and looked in some stores. Then last night after supper, we bought ice cream from a little convenient store near ISH and brought it back to mine and Brittany's room. Since I brought a case of DVDs along, we picked out one to watch, and just chatted while watching 27 Dresses. It was nice to just lounge around and relax. This morning, Brittany, Jeni, Katie, Alyssa, and I all got up early so we could get a bunch of stuff done. We went to ISH for breakfast and left from there. We walked to where Westminster Abbey was. On the way, we saw Big Ben for the first time up close. It was so cool. After taking pictures of Big Ben, we made our way over to the abbey. It was 13 pounds to enter the abbey if you were a student. I didn't have my Birkbeck student ID on me, but I had my UW-Stevens Point one in my wallet, and the lady let me have the discount. The church was really pretty. We weren't allowed to take photos in there, but I did buy a postcard with some of the inside on them. After that, we made our way to Buckingham Palace to see the changing of the guard. We didn't get there right away, so at first we couldn't see much. Eventually after some people left we snaked our way to the front. It was just fascinating. It's probably boring to some people, but I think its cool. They march so funnily. They stomp their feet hard and its just funny looking. I got some photos of that, of what I could muster up with since I wasn't in the front row until the end, and I took a couple videos of it. Once that was done, we made our way to Trafalgar Square. We then went up the steps to go into the National Gallery, but saw some street performers up there, so we watched them break-dance a little bit. It wasn't too impressive. After, we went into the National Gallery. I personally found it to be really boring, since I'm not into art and old paintings. But I guess it is cool to say that I've been there. Once we were done there we decided it was time to head back to our rooms. We started our day at 8am and didn't get back to ISH until around 5pm. It was a long day. My day is not over yet either. Most of us are at the ISH Bar since they said they would put the Packer game on tv for us. I'm so tired from today, but I'll just have to get through the game before I let my eyes shut.

Well,
ReplyDeleteThere is much sadness and some disgust in Wisconsin after that Packer loss to San Francisco...hope you were not embarrassed by it too!
We never made it to Regent Park. When we were in London, we visited Hyde Park. I think our hotel was near it and we walked. I like the pictures you took. Regent park looks wonderful.
That was nice they let you into Westminster Abbey with your UWSP ID.
Have you looked into what it costs to ride that huge Ferris Wheel?? I would think the views from that would be stunning...on a clear day anyway.
You will have to see the Crown Jewels over at the Tower of London. Also check out the War Rooms where Sir Winston Churchill and his cabinet planned the war effort during WWII. It is exactly as they left it after the war was over! I was totally impressed.
Hey since you were over at Buckingham Palace...did you happen to get a picture of William and Kate? :)
I have to ask how the reading is going? Are you managing it all?
We had a great time this past weekend in Wisconsin. The whole gang got together Friday night...but it wasn't the whole gang...you were missing! Somehow we carried on without you but it wasn't the same!
Carry On Claire!
